Power

What is the Voltage of the RockAIR's serial port?

The RockAIR has a RS232 spec interface and accepts an input of -25V to +25V.

Can I power my RockAIR using a portable external battery? If yes, what capacity should it be?

You can power your RockAIR using a portable external battery. Here are a few things you need to take into consideration.

The RockAIR's internal backup battery is 6.85 Wh / 1850 mAh. When fully charged, it can power the unit for 8 hours, transmitting via Iridium once a minute.

With a simple triangulation, you can figure out how many Watt Hours (Wh) your device needs for your application. We suggest you multiply that value by a safety factor that takes into consideration changing conditions and battery degradation over time.

If you're powering your RockAIR through the Molex port, we recommend a 12V power source, although you can go down to 9V. USB Charging is done at 5V.

After calculating your Watt Hours (Wh) and selecting your voltage requirements, your backup battery's energy capacity in MilliAmp Hours (mAh) can be calculated.
